VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Flag Day is Thursday, there was a special observance, Sunday, in Hampton Roads. Elks Lodge number 2268 held a special ceremony today at the Flame of Hope along South Oceana Boulevard. Cub Scouts, Veterans, active military members and others recognized the national symbol of our country.
"Everybody should have, in America, a flag in their house, somewhere displayed inside or outside. I really believe that. It makes me feel really good as I go around the country and see it as I do," says Retired Marine Colonel Frank Cubillo.
President Harry S. Truman signed legislation in 1949 that designated June 14th Flag Day.
